About Eudryas unio Hübner, 1831
Eudryas unio, commonly known as the pearly wood-nymph, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. Its scientific name is Eudryas unio Hübner, 1831. This moth is found across most of the eastern United States, ranging from central New Hampshire and southern Ontario in the north, southward to southern Florida. To the west, its distribution extends to the eastern Great Plains, and along the eastern coast of Mexico it reaches south to southern Texas and Veracruz. The wingspan of adult Eudryas unio measures 26–35 mm. Adults are active in flight from May to August each year. The larvae of this species feed on plants from the genera Vitis, Ludwigia, Lythrum, and Hibiscus, as well as the species Oenothera biennis and Decodon verticillatus. Eudryas brevipennis was once classified as a possible subspecies of Eudryas unio, but the two are now recognized as separate species because the genitalia of both males and females differ between them.
