About Eudemis porphyrana (Hübner, 1796-1799)

Eudemis porphyrana, first described by Hübner between 1796 and 1799, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. This species occurs across most of Europe; it is absent from Iceland, Ireland, the Iberian Peninsula, the western Balkan Peninsula, and Ukraine, and its range extends east to the eastern Palearctic realm. The wingspan of adult moths measures 17 to 21 mm. Adults are active in flight from June through August each year. The larvae of Eudemis porphyrana feed on Padus avium, Pyrus, Quercus, and Salix caprea. This species is sometimes considered a pest when it occurs on Malus, Prunus, Crataegus, and Ribes. Larvae roll the leaves of their host plant and feed from inside the rolled leaf structure.
