About Eucosma metzneriana (Treitschke, 1830)
Eucosma metzneriana, commonly known as the mugwort bell, is a moth species belonging to the family Tortricidae. Its distribution covers Sicily, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Sweden, Finland, the Baltic region, Ukraine, Russia (including European Russia, Siberia, and the Russian Far East), North Africa, Transcaucasia, Asia Minor, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, China (including Henan, Hubei, Guangxi, Tibet, Shaanxi, Gansu, and Xinjiang), Korea, and Japan. This moth has a wingspan ranging from 17 to 23 mm. In Europe, adult moths are active on the wing from June to July. The larvae of Eucosma metzneriana feed on species in the Artemisia genus, including Artemisia vulgaris and Artemisia absinthium. Their feeding activity triggers the formation of galls, which develop as swollen growths on the host plant's stem. Light-colored frass from the larvae is expelled out of the gall. Mature larvae have pale yellow bodies and brown heads. Pupation occurs inside the stem of the host plant.
