About Euchrysops osiris (Hopffer, 1855)
Euchrysops osiris, commonly known as the Osiris smoky blue or African Cupid, is a species of butterfly belonging to the Lycaenidae family. This butterfly can be found in southern Arabia, Madagascar, the Comoro Islands, and all parts of Africa south of the Sahara. Males of this species have a wingspan ranging from 22 to 29 millimeters, while females have a slightly larger wingspan of 25 to 30 millimeters. Adult Euchrysops osiris are most active on the wing from September to November and from February to April, though they can be observed year-round in some areas. This species typically has two main generations annually. The larvae feed on three plant species: Rhynchosia totta, Vigna tenuis, and Vigna unguiculata.
