About Eucephalus breweri (A.Gray) G.L.Nesom
Eucephalus breweri (A.Gray) G.L.Nesom, commonly called Brewer's aster, is a North American species in the Asteraceae plant family. It is native to California, where it grows primarily at subalpine elevations in the Sierra Nevada. Its native range extends into northwestern Nevada and southwestern Oregon. This species is a perennial herb that grows from a woody caudex, reaching a maximum height between 10 centimeters (4 inches) and 1 meter (39 inches). Its stems are mostly erect, and are covered in woolly fibers and resin glands. It produces abundant hairy, glandular leaves that are lance-shaped to oval, with pointed tips, and either smooth or toothed edges. Leaves grow up to 5 centimeters (2 inches) long. The inflorescence bears several discoid flower heads, which are packed with long yellow disc florets and do not have ray florets. The flower heads are lined with hairy, glandular phyllaries. The fruit produced by this species is a hairy achene.
