About Eublemma purpurina (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
Eublemma purpurina, commonly known as the beautiful marbled, is a species of moth belonging to the family Erebidae. It was first formally described by Michael Denis and Ignaz Schiffermüller in 1775. This moth's distribution extends from North Africa, through the Iberian Peninsula and southern France, eastward to Romania, southern Russia, southern Turkey, and as far as western central Asia. In the northern part of its range, it reaches Valais, eastern Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. In Western Bohemia forests of the Czech Republic, this moth has been observed migrating to recently burned forest areas together with other moth species. The wingspan of Eublemma purpurina measures 20 to 26 millimetres, which is equal to 0.79 to 1.02 inches. Adult moths are active in two generations per year, from May to June and again from August to September. The larvae of this species feed on creeping thistle, Cirsium arvense.
