About Eschscholzia glyptosperma Greene
Eschscholzia glyptosperma is a species of poppy with three common names: desert gold poppy, desert golden poppy, and Mojave poppy. It is native to the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts in the Southwestern United States, specifically growing in California, southern Nevada, western Arizona, and southwestern Utah. This plant grows in desert washes, flats, and slopes, at elevations between 30 and 1,600 metres (98 to 5,249 ft).
Eschscholzia glyptosperma is an annual herb that grows from a basal patch of leaves, which are divided into pointed segments. It produces erect stems that reach up to around 25 centimeters (10 inches) in height, and each stem holds a single flower. The flower is bright yellow, with petals 1 to 2.5 centimeters long. It blooms from March through May. Its fruit is a capsule 4 to 7 centimeters long, filled with tiny rounded brown seeds.
