About Erythromma lindenii (Selys, 1840)
The goblet-marked damselfly, with the scientific name Erythromma lindenii, is a medium-sized damselfly belonging to the pond damselfly family Coenagrionidae. Individuals of this species typically have a blue-and-black or green-and-black body pattern. This species is fairly common across southern and western Europe, but it does not occur in the British Isles, Scandinavia, or eastern Europe. It can also be found in the Russian Federation in Asia, and in Africa. Erythromma lindenii was previously classified under two different scientific names: Coenagrion lindenii and Cercion lindenii. This species is also commonly called the blue-eye. It is an easily recognizable damselfly, with distinguishing features including wide antehumeral stripes and narrow postocular spots. Males have very bright blue eyes, long curved appendages, and spear-shaped marks on segments S3 to S6 of the abdomen.
