About Erythranthe androsacea (Curran ex Greene) N.S.Fraga
Erythranthe androsacea is a small annual herb. It grows a thin, erect hair-like stem that is only a few centimeters tall. Most of its herbage ranges in color from red to greenish. Its tiny paired leaves sheath the stem at their midpoint. The tubular base of the flower is surrounded by a slightly hairy red calyx made of sepals. The flower corolla is pink to reddish-purple, with darker spots in its throat, and is just a few millimeters long. This species is endemic to California. Its distribution stretches from the Coast Ranges north of the San Francisco Bay Area to the Mojave Desert, and also includes the Transverse Ranges and Peninsular Ranges. It grows in moist or wet areas across many different habitat types.
