About Eryngium armatum (S.Watson) J.M.Coult. & Rose
Eryngium armatum is a low-growing perennial herb. It forms patches of thick leaves that range in color from green to yellow-green. Each leaf is long and straight, and sometimes has serrated or toothed edges. Stout stems support spiky inflorescences made of flower heads, each of which is nearly one centimeter wide. Each flower head is surrounded by seven or eight long, sharp-pointed bracts that are about two centimeters long, and sometimes there are additional layers of smaller bractlets above these. Tiny flowers that range in color from white to purplish are tucked between these layers of bracts.
