About Eritrichium nanum (L.) Gaudin

Eritrichium nanum (L.) Gaudin is a cushion plant that grows up to 10 centimetres (4 in) tall. It forms tufts of lanceolate leaves that reach up to 1.5 centimetres (1⁄2 in) long. It blooms from June to August, producing deep blue, five-lobed, funnel-shaped corollas. Five yellow pads surround the opening of the corolla's inner tube. Its fruit is divided into four nutlets. This species occurs in the European Alps, and in western North America from Alaska along the Rocky Mountains to Oregon, Montana, and New Mexico. It grows at elevations of 10,000 feet, in habitats with acid rocks, snow gullies, and receding glaciers.
