About Eriophyllum staechadifolium Lag.
Eriophyllum staechadifolium Lag. is a flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, commonly known as seaside woolly sunflower. It is native to the coastline of Oregon and California, including the Channel Islands, where it grows on beaches, in dunes, and in coastal scrub habitats.
This species varies in size, and its height partially depends on exposure to harsh coastal wind and saline spray. It can grow between 30 centimeters and 150 centimeters (1–5 feet) tall, and may form small clumps or grow quite sprawling. Its leaves grow up to seven centimeters (2.8 inches) long, and are sometimes lobed. Each inflorescence holds multiple tightly packed golden yellow flower heads. The center of each flower head contains 30-40 disc florets, and is usually bordered by a fringe of 5-6 small ray florets, each a few millimeters long.
