About Eriophyllum multicaule (DC.) A.Gray
Eriophyllum multicaule (DC.) A.Gray is a North American flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It carries the common name manystem woolly sunflower, and it is native to California and Arizona, located in the southwestern United States. This species grows in chaparral habitat, particularly along the California coast. It is a small, branching, clump-forming annual herb that rarely grows taller than 15 cm, or 6 inches. Its stems are fleshy, and its foliage ranges in color from bright green to purplish green. The small leaves are roughly one centimeter, or 0.4 inches, long; they are sometimes covered in woolly texture, and are wedge-shaped with three small teeth at the tip. At the ends of stems, inflorescences form as clusters of tiny flower heads. Each flower head is bright golden yellow, with a center holding 10 to 20 disc florets. These are surrounded by 5 to 7 ray florets, each around two millimeters, or 0.08 inches, long.
