About Erigeron vernus (L.) Torr. & A.Gray

Erigeron vernus, commonly called early white-top fleabane, is a North American flowering plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to the southeastern United States, ranging from Virginia to Louisiana. This species is most often found in habitat types including interdunal swales, wet savannas, and cypress swamps, and it also grows in moist areas of flatwoods and savannas, and occasionally in ditches and along roadsides. It serves as an indicator species in the savannas of the Florida Panhandle. Erigeron vernus is a biennial or perennial herb that can reach up to 50 centimeters (20 inches) in height. It produces rhizomes along with a woody underground caudex. Its inflorescence consists of 1 to 25 flower heads arranged in flat-topped clusters. Each flower head holds 25 to 40 white ray florets that surround numerous yellow disc florets.
