About Erigeron speciosus (Lindl.) DC.

Erigeron speciosus (Lindl.) DC. is a perennial herb that can grow up to 100 centimetres (39 inches) tall. It produces underground rhizomes and a woody caudex. Each stem of this plant typically bears an inflorescence holding 2 to 20 flower heads. Each individual flower head contains 75 to 150 ray florets, which can be white, lavender, or blue, that surround numerous yellow disc florets. The flowering period of this species runs from June to October. Erigeron speciosus resembles Erigeron subtrinervis, which differs by having hairy stems and leaves. This species occurs in western Canada and the western United States; its range extends south from Alberta and British Columbia to Arizona and New Mexico, with separate isolated populations present in Baja California, a Mexican state. It grows in open coniferous forests.
