About Erigeron pulchellus Michx.
Erigeron pulchellus Michx., commonly known as Robin's plantain, poor Robin's plantain, blue spring daisy, or hairy fleabane, is a North American plant species belonging to the family Asteraceae. It has a widespread distribution across much of the United States and Canada, ranging from Québec and Ontario in the north southward to eastern Texas and the Florida Panhandle. E. pulchellus is a perennial herb that reaches up to 60 cm (2 feet) in height, and spreads via underground rhizomes. Each stem of the plant produces between 1 and 9 flower heads. Each flower head can contain up to 100 ray florets, which may be white, pink, pale blue, or pale purple, surrounding numerous yellow disc florets. This species grows in forests, along roadsides, and on the banks of bodies of water. Three varieties are recognized: Erigeron pulchellus var. brauniae Fernald, found in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia; Erigeron pulchellus var. pulchellus, found across most of the species' total range; and Erigeron pulchellus var. tolsteadii Cronquist, found in Minnesota.
