About Erigeron alpinus L.

Erigeron alpinus, commonly known as alpine fleabane, is a perennial plant species in the Asteraceae family that is native to Europe. It is widespread across most of Europe, but is not found in the far northern regions of the continent. This herb grows up to 30 centimeters (12 inches) tall, and produces spoon-shaped, hairy, medium green leaves. Its flower heads bear narrow, thread-like ray florets arranged in two or more rows. During summer, the flower heads measure up to 3.75 centimeters (1 1/2 inches) across, and feature lilac-blue to red-purple ray florets surrounding a center of greenish-yellow disc florets. Three subspecies are recognized: Erigeron alpinus subsp. alpinus, Erigeron alpinus subsp. intermedius (Rchb.) Pawł., and Erigeron alpinus subsp. rhodopaeus (Vierh.) Kožuharov & N.Andreev.
