About Ericameria palmeri (A.Gray) H.M.Hall

Ericameria palmeri, commonly known as Palmer's goldenbush, is a North American species of flowering shrub in the daisy family Asteraceae. It is native to southern California in the United States and the Mexican state of Baja California. This is a branching shrub that can grow up to 400 cm (over 13 feet) tall. Its leaves are shaped linear to narrowly oblanceolate. A single individual can produce many small yellow flower heads, each holding 2 to 8 ray florets and 6 to 20 disc florets. There are two recognized varieties of this species. Ericameria palmeri var. pachylepis (H.M.Hall) G.L.Nesom grows in California, ranging from northern San Diego County northward to Kern and San Luis Obispo Counties. Ericameria palmeri var. palmeri occurs in northern Baja California, as well as in southern California: San Diego County, Orange County, western Riverside County, and southwestern San Bernardino County, with isolated populations found north of Calabasas in Los Angeles County and southeast of Lake Isabella in Kern County.
