About Ericameria nana Nutt.
Ericameria nana Nutt. is a small shrub that grows on cliffs and rocky hillsides. It rarely reaches a maximum height of 50 cm (20 inches), and has rigid, intricately branched stems that grow up to 3 decimeters tall. Its leaves are spreading and alternate, arranged either linearly or in a narrow lance shape. They are sticky, curved, somewhat fleshy, and between 10 and 15 millimeters (about 0.4 to 0.6 inches) long, located on the upper half of the stems. Clusters of small leaves grow in the main leaf axils. Dense inflorescences of tiny flower heads form at the tips of the plant's erect branches. Each flower head is 6 to 9 millimeters high, with several straw-colored bracts, and holds florets ranging from cream white to yellow. It has 3 to 10 yellow ray florets that measure 2 to 4 millimeters long, along with disc florets. This species blooms from July through November.
