About Erica scoparia L.
Erica scoparia L. is a perennial evergreen shrub. It produces small bell-shaped, drooping flowers that range in color from yellowish white to red-brown, which grow in clusters at the ends of the plant’s shoots. This species is native to the western Mediterranean Basin. Its native range includes the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), Northwest Africa (Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia), Southern France, Italy, and the islands of the Balearics, Sardinia, and Corsica. It grows in a variety of Mediterranean habitats, including semi-arid areas. The distribution of Erica scoparia L. is thought to depend heavily on two soil factors: water availability, for which the species is classified as hygrophytic, and dissolved aluminum. It grows consistently across a wide range of shade levels.
