About Erica capitata L.

Erica capitata L. is a plant species in the genus Erica that grows within fynbos vegetation. This species is endemic to the Western Cape province of South Africa, where it occurs in the Cape Peninsula, and in the area extending from Groot Hagelkraal to Mamre. Over time, the species has lost 50% of its total habitat due to residential and commercial development, agricultural activities, and invasive plant species. Despite this habitat loss, Erica capitata remains abundant within the Cape Peninsula. Ninety percent of the species' total population is currently located within protected areas in the Peninsula, though the species' remaining habitat continues to face ongoing threats.
