About Eragrostis superba Peyr.

Eragrostis superba Peyr. is a species of perennial tufted grass that belongs to the grass family Poaceae. This species is a palatable forage grass, though it naturally occurs at low population densities. Its native range extends from Sudan to South Africa, and it produces flowers during the rainy season. It bears large, flat, oval-shaped spikelets that are arranged in long panicles. These spikelets have serrated edges, and take on a purple or pinkish color when fresh. It grows natively on sandy soils in open woodlands or sparse grassland, at altitudes up to around 1,500 meters, and can also grow as a pioneer species in disturbed areas.
