About Eragrostis pectinacea (Michx.) Nees
Eragrostis pectinacea is an annual bunchgrass that grows in tufts, with a maximum height ranging from 10 to 80 centimeters. Most of the plant is hairless, with the only exception being a fringe of hairs located at the junction of the leaf blade and the leaf sheath. Its inflorescence is open, with spreading branches that carry yellowish to purplish spikelets. Each spikelet is just under one centimeter long. Every narrow spikelet contains up to 15 to 20 tiny florets. This grass is widely distributed across the Americas: it occurs from Canada through the United States to Mexico in North America, as well as in Central America, the Caribbean, and parts of South America. It has been introduced to Europe, and to areas of South America further south than its native range, specifically in northeast Argentina and Uruguay.
