Eragrostis hypnoides is a mat-forming, creeping annual grass. It roots along its stolons, and produces short erect stem tips that reach a maximum height of about 10 centimeters. The inflorescences that grow on top of these erect sections hold small spikelets, each around one centimeter long, with a color ranging from yellow-green to slightly purple.
