About Eragrostis cilianensis (All.) Vignolo ex Janch.
This annual bunchgrass species, Eragrostis cilianensis, forms tufts that reach around half a meter in height. Its stems are generally erect, though they may also droop or bend. Stems have glandular tissue near the nodes, and the species’ long leaves are also often dotted with glands. Plants of this species produce a strong scent. The inflorescences are branching, with one to several spikelets growing on each branch. Each spikelet is greenish brown, sometimes with a very faint purple tint, and measures between one half and two centimeters long. Spikelets are somewhat flattened, and carry between 10 and over 40 florets each. Eragrostis cilianensis is native to most of Eurasia and Africa, but it is now widely naturalized in other regions, including almost all of North America.
