About Epithelantha micromeris (Engelm.) F.A.C.Weber
Epithelantha micromeris is a button cactus belonging to the genus Epithelantha. It can be found growing in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and northeast Mexico. This species has a distinctive globular stem covered in white-grey spines. The dense arrangement of its white spines creates the illusion that the whole plant is grey, so the green stem beneath the spines is very difficult to see. It reaches a height of 1 to 5 cm, and has an approximate diameter of 2 to 4 cm. E. micromeris produces small pink-white flowers, which are often counted among the smallest flowers produced by any cactus. After flowering, it develops a bright red cylindrical fruit that contains multiple black seeds, and this fruit is edible.
