About Epitheca bimaculata (Charpentier, 1825)

Epitheca bimaculata, commonly known as the Eurasian baskettail or two-spotted dragonfly, is a species of dragonfly. It was first described by Toussaint de Charpentier in 1825, and was originally classified under the genus Libellula. This species is the designated type species of the genus Epitheca. The species' habitat range extends from Western France eastward to Japan and eastern Siberia. While it occurs in Western Europe, populations there are rare and sightings are very irregular. Confirmed occurrences have also been recorded in Serbia, Kaliningrad Oblast (Russia), and Ukraine. In Hungary, the species' presence is sporadic.
