About Epiphyllum phyllanthus (L.) Haw.

Epiphyllum phyllanthus (L.) Haw., commonly called the climbing cactus, is a species of epiphytic cactus. This species does not produce true leaves; instead, its stems carry out photosynthesis. Researchers think it is pollinated by hawkmoths, because its flowers only open at night and release a strong fragrance. It is the most common epiphyte found growing on the tree Platypodium elegans, and it particularly grows in cavities found in the tree's trunk.
