About Epinotia tedella (Clerck, 1759)
Epinotia tedella is a species of moth in the family Tortricidae, found in Europe. The wingspan of this moth ranges from 10 to 13 mm. The face and palpi of Epinotia tedella are whitish. Its forewings are pale brownish, streaked with short dark lines or often completely suffused with dark fuscous. The posterior section of the costa has short alternating white streaks. A whitish fascia within the basal patch is present in some individuals. The central fascia narrows toward the costa, and is bounded by two pairs of silvery-white or grey striae that are sometimes almost completely absent; the first striae is somewhat curved, while the second is somewhat interrupted in the middle. The posterior portion of the disc on the forewings is often mixed with whitish. The termen is barely sinuate. A white subapical dash is visible in the cilia. The hindwings are grey. The larva is green, with a rather broad, reddish-grey subdorsal line; its head and the second thoracic plate are black. This moth usually produces one generation that flies from April to June. A second generation may occur in August during warm years. Larvae mainly feed on Norway spruce.
