About Epilobium obcordatum A.Gray
Epilobium obcordatum, commonly called rockfringe willowherb or rock fringe, is a species of perennial flowering plant belonging to the evening-primrose family Onagraceae. It is native to the western United States, ranging from California to Idaho, where it grows in rocky mountainous habitats at altitudes between 7,000 feet (2,100 meters) and 13,000 feet (4,000 meters). This small perennial herb grows in clumps or mats, spreading from a woody caudex, and often fills rocky nooks. Its stems are lined with oval or rounded leaves that lie parallel to the ground or angle slightly upward. Flowers grow at the tips of the thin stems, each bloom bearing four petals. The petals are magenta to purple, with a rounded, notched shape that often forms a clear heart shape, and measure one to two centimeters in length. The fruit is a glandular, club-like, ridged capsule two to four centimeters long that grows from a short stalk.
