About Epilecta linogrisea (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
Scientific name: Epilecta linogrisea (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775. Description: The wingspan of this species is 32–41 mm. For E. linogrisea Schiff. (14g), the forewing is greyish white. It has diffuse dark grey colouring along the costa, inner margin, and particularly on the inner line below the median vein. The claviform stigma is faint, marked by a black line. The orbicular and reniform stigmas have fine black rings; the orbicular stigma is round with a pale grey centre, while the reniform stigma has a blackish centre. A quadrate black spot sits on the costa before the submarginal line, and beyond this spot the marginal area is brown red. The hindwing is yellow, with a broad black border; the base and costa of the hindwing are grey, and the fringe is ochreous. This species occurs chiefly in Southern Europe, including Spain, Greece, France, and Germany, but is also found in Scandinavia. In Asia, it is found in Armenia, Syria, and Asia Minor. The aberration ab. lutosa Stgr. has yellowish grey ground colour instead of white. The larva is purple brown, with a double black dorsal line that is enlarged into patches on the first four front segments. On these four front segments, the white and black lateral line is entirely black. It has a row of oblique black [markings, description cut off]
