About Epidendrum secundum Jacq.
Like other members of Epidendrum subgenus Amphiglottium, Epidendrum secundum Jacq. is a sympodial plant. It has thin stems covered from the base with imbricating sheaths, which bear leaves on their upper portion. It produces a terminal inflorescence that is covered at its base with thin imbricating sheaths, and its flowers have a lip that is adnate to the column all the way to the column's apex. Unlike Epidendrum ibaguense and Epidendrum radicans, the flowers of E. secundum are non-resupinate. They may be lilac, red, orange, or yellow, and have a distinct callus on a fringed, three-lobed lip. This species is fairly cold-tolerant and can withstand a light frost.
