About Ephyriades brunnea (Herrich-Schäffer, 1864)
This species, Ephyriades brunnea, commonly called the duskywing skipper, has an approximate wingspan of 1 and 7/8 inches (48 mm). On the dorsal wing surface of males, the color is dark brown with a sheen. There is a circle of white transparent spots near the wing apex, and the hindwing has a broad lighter brown margin. The dorsal wing surface of females is brown with dark mottling and dark outer margins. Females have larger, more numerous dorsal spots than males. When individuals first emerge as adults, both sexes have a purplish sheen on the dorsal side of the forewing. The caterpillar is small and translucent green, with a black head that has orange patches on the sides and upper face. It has a dark line along its back, bordered by yellow, plus yellow lines along its sides and many small yellow spots.
