About Ennomos subsignaria (Hübner)

Ennomos subsignaria, commonly known as the elm spanworm moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Geometridae. This species was first formally described by Jacob Hübner in 1823. Its native range is in North America, where it occurs from Texas in the south, north-west to Alberta, and extends east to the Atlantic coast. It is recorded only infrequently in Great Britain, having arrived there via accidental importation alongside asparagus. The wingspan of adult elm spanworm moths ranges from 35 to 40 mm. Adults are active on the wing from late May through August, and this species produces one generation per year. The larvae of Ennomos subsignaria feed on the foliage of elm, apple, birch, maple, and oak trees.
