About Enicurus velatus Temminck, 1822

The Sunda forktail, scientifically named Enicurus velatus Temminck, 1822, measures 16 cm (6.3 in) long and has a deeply forked tail. Males have a white breast, belly, and rump, black wings, a dark grey back and head, a small white line between the eyes, and a black tail with white barring. Females are similar to males but have a brown crown and nape. The nominate race occurs on Java, while the Sumatran subspecies sumatranus differs from the nominate in that its females have more rufous brown plumage. The call of this species is a hard shrill "chee" or "hie-tie-tie".
