About Engelmannia peristenia (Raf.) Goodman & C.A.Lawson

Engelmannia peristenia, commonly known as Engelmann daisy or cutleaf daisy, is a North American flowering plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to the south-central United States. Its primary native range covers Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and southeastern Colorado, and it also has more isolated populations growing in Arizona, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota. This species is a branching perennial herb that can grow up to 100 cm (40 inches) tall. Its basal leaves can reach up to 30 cm (1 foot) in length, and leaves become progressively smaller as they grow higher on the plant's stem. The plant produces many small flower heads; each flower head typically holds 8 ray florets and 40 to 50 disc florets. Its flowering season runs from March to July. Habitats where this species grows include grasslands, roadsides, and pinion-juniper woodlands.
