About Endiandra pubens Meisn.
Endiandra pubens Meisn. is a small bushy tree, and occasionally grows to 25 metres tall with a trunk diameter of 45 cm. Larger trees may have a flanged or somewhat buttressed base. The bark is pale, ranging in colour from light grey to fawn. Small branches are covered in rusty hairs. Leaves are simple, alternate, and ovate in shape, measuring 7 to 20 cm long. The upper leaf surface is glossy green, while the underside is rusty and covered in hairs. Hairy leaf stalks are 5 to 20 mm long. Leaf veins are visible on both the upper and lower leaf surfaces; they are more noticeable on the lower surface, which is covered in brown hairs. Cream or orange flowers grow on short panicles between March and May. The flowers have a rusty appearance and carry an aniseed scent. The fruit, a large fleshy drupe, matures between October and February, and is 3 to 6 cm in diameter. Fruit colour ranges from greenish to deep red, and it contains a single large seed inside. To assist germination, it is advised to remove the red fleshy aril. Regeneration from fresh seed is very slow; roots and shoots often take a full year to appear.
