About Emilia fosbergii Nicolson

Emilia fosbergii Nicolson is an annual herb that reaches a maximum height of 100 cm, or 40 inches. It typically produces just one central stem, which may or may not branch out. Each of its flower heads holds over 60 disc florets that can be pink, purple, or red, and it does not produce any ray florets. Its seeds have hairs that are adapted for wind dispersal. This species is widely distributed across tropical and semitropical regions globally, including Africa, South and Southeast Asia, northern Australia, North America, South America, and multiple oceanic islands. Its native origin is still debated: some sources say it is native to Africa, while others name Asia or South America as its original range. It has been recorded as naturalized in scattered locations across the United States, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
