About Embernagra platensis (J.F.Gmelin, 1789)
The Pampa finch, scientifically named Embernagra platensis, is also commonly called the great Pampa-finch, and it is a species of bird. Traditionally, this species was classified in the family Emberizidae. However, molecular phylogenetic studies have demonstrated that it actually belongs to the tanager family Thraupidae. This finch is distributed across Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, temperate grassland, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, and swamps.
