About Embernagra longicauda Strickland, 1844

The serra finch, with the scientific name Embernagra longicauda, is also commonly called the pale-throated Pampa-finch. This bird species was traditionally classified in the family Emberizidae. However, recent research indicates it is either very closely related to the Thraupidae family, or actually belongs within Thraupidae. This species is endemic to Brazil. Its natural habitats are dry savanna and subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland. It is growing increasingly rare as a result of habitat loss.
