The wedge-tailed grass finch, scientifically known as Emberizoides herbicola, is a bird species that belongs to the family Thraupidae. It was previously classified under the family Emberizidae. This species can be found across Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Its largest continuous range is located in southeastern South America, covering southern Brazil, Bolivia, eastern Paraguay, and extreme northeast Argentina, within the cerrado, pantanal, and southern caatinga regions. It also occurs in smaller disjunct areas: northern Colombia alongside central Venezuela, the Atlantic coastal Guianas, and Ilha de Marajo at the outlet of the Amazon River. Its natural habitats include dry savanna, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, and heavily degraded former forest.
