About Elephantopus nudatus A.Gray
Elephantopus nudatus A.Gray is a perennial herb that grows up to 110 cm (44 inches) tall. Its leaves are oblanceolate to spatulate, reaching up to 20 cm (8 inches) in length, and are darker on the upper surface than on the lower surface. This plant produces numerous small flower heads arranged in a tight cluster, with each head usually holding just 4 to 5 florets. It has been recorded flowering from late July through September.
As a facultative species, E. nudatus can grow in both wetland and non-wetland environments. Across its native range, it is most commonly found in dry woodlands and along woodland borders. It has also been observed in other habitat types, including hammocks, longleaf pine-wiregrass savannas, mesic flatwoods, and floodplains. This species responds to disturbances like fire or clearcutting by increasing its foliage biomass.
