About Eleocharis quinqueflora (Hartmann) O.Schwarz
Eleocharis quinqueflora is a species of spikesedge, commonly known as fewflower spikerush and few-flowered spike-rush. It is widespread across Europe, North Africa, northern Asia including Siberia, China, Kazakhstan, and the Himalayas, and North America including Canada, Greenland, and the northern and western United States. Isolated populations also grow in Argentina and Chile. This species grows in wet meadows, bogs, hot springs, and other moist places. It is a rhizomatous perennial that reaches a maximum height of 40 centimeters. Its thin, flattened stems are surrounded by papery leaf sheaths that range in color from reddish to green, and are topped with dark inflorescences. The spikelet is lance-shaped to oval, measures less than a centimeter long, and holds two to seven flowers. Each flower is covered by a brown or black bract. The fruit is a yellow-brown achene that is two to three millimeters long.
