About Eleocharis obtusa (Willd.) Schult.

Eleocharis obtusa (Willd.) Schult. is a spikesedge species with the common name blunt spikerush. This plant is widely distributed across Canada and the United States, growing in wet locations including riverbanks and moist forest floors. It also grows as a weed in rice paddies, particularly when rice plants are young sprouts. Blunt spikerush is an annual spikesedge that reaches a maximum height of close to half a meter. It produces many green cylindrical stems that are erect, but also weak and spongy. Thin, grasslike leaves that are usually straw-colored may grow toward the base of the plant. A rounded or oblong spikelet sits at the top of each stem, holding at least ten flowers. Each flower is covered by an oval-shaped brown bract.
