About Eleocharis equisetoides (Elliott) Torr.

Eleocharis equisetoides, which has common names including horsetail spike-rush, jointed spike-rush, spikesedge, and knotted spike-rush, is a plant species native to the United States and Ontario. It typically grows in freshwater wetland areas. It is found primarily on the Atlantic coastal plain from Texas to Massachusetts and in the Great Lakes region, with scattered populations in other locations. Eleocharis equisetoides and its related species E. interstincta both have hollow stems with complete transverse septa. This structure gives the stems a jointed appearance that superficially resembles the stems of some Equisetum species. The two species can be told apart by the length of the perianth bristles that grow beneath their achenes.
