About Eleocharis bifida S.G.Sm.

Eleocharis bifida is a species of spikesedge, commonly known as glade spikerush. It is native to the Eastern United States, where it is endemic to the Interior Low Plateau and a very small part of the Ridge and Valley ecoregion. Most of its range lies within Kentucky and Tennessee, and it also extends into southern Indiana, northern Alabama, and northwestern Georgia. It grows only in wet areas of cedar glades, including pools and streamsides. Its narrow specific habitat requirement is why this species is considered vulnerable. Eleocharis bifida was formally described to science in 2001, after being separated from the similar species Eleocharis compressa. This species can be distinguished by its wider stems and floral scales that are all bifid, meaning 2-lobed.
