About Elattostachys xylocarpa (A.Cunn. ex F.Muell.) Radlk.
Elattostachys xylocarpa (A.Cunn. ex F.Muell.) Radlk. is a small to medium-sized tree that can grow up to 25 metres tall, with a maximum stem diameter of 35 cm. Its trunk may be fluted at the base. The dark brown bark is relatively smooth and marked with horizontal raised lines. Leaves are pinnate and arranged alternately along the stem. Leaflet stalks are 3 mm long. Leaflets are toothed, ranging from 3 to 8 cm long and 1.5 to 4 cm wide. Small hairy tufts can be found at the junction where lateral leaf veins meet the midrib. Red flowers grow in panicles, blooming between December and April. The fruit is a round or pear-shaped capsule that is yellowish on the outside. It usually splits into three valved sections, which contain one glossy black seed; many sections do not produce a seed. A white to dark red aril sits inside the fruiting capsule. Fruit ripens from March to June.
