About Elaphria festivoides Guenée, 1852

Elaphria festivoides, commonly known as the festive midget, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species is found in eastern North America. In 2003, researchers Pogue and Sullivan split Elaphria alapallida off from Elaphria festivoides as a separate species. All previously collected specimens of what was identified as E. festivoides from Canada have since been confirmed to be the newly separated species E. alapallida, so E. festivoides is likely not present in Canada. The wingspan of adult festive midgets ranges from 21 to 28 mm. Adult moths are active on wing from April through July. This species produces at least two generations each year. Larvae of Elaphria festivoides have been successfully reared on Acer negundo.
