About Elaeagnus triflora Roxb.
Elaeagnus triflora Roxb. is a climbing scandent shrub or vine, with stems growing up to 8 cm (3.1 in) in diameter. Its leaves are simple, and can reach up to 13 cm (5.1 in) in length and 6 cm (2.4 in) in width. The upper surface of the leaves is green and dotted with small pits, while the underside is covered in tiny scales that give it a metallic silver or coppery hue. Each leaf has five to eight lateral veins on either side of the central midrib.
Flowers of Elaeagnus triflora grow in the leaf axils, either alone or in groups of three along a raceme. The flowers are fragrant, reaching up to around 9 mm (0.4 in) long, and have four pointed, pale yellow petals. The fruit is red, ellipsoid, and measures about 17 mm (0.7 in) long. It contains a single seed that is roughly 15 mm (0.6 in) long and 6 mm (0.2 in) wide, and the fruit is edible.
