About Eetion elia (Hewitson, 1866)
Eetion elia, commonly known as the white-spot palmer, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. It was first described by William Chapman Hewitson in 1866. This species is found in Malaysia, Singapore, and on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo. Its preferred habitat is the fringes of secondary forests. Eetion elia is the only species in the monotypic genus Eetion, which was erected by Lionel de Nicéville in 1895. The wingspan of Eetion elia is approximately 38 mm. The genus Eetion is separated from related genera by a row of transparent spots that runs straight across the center of the hindwing. The median white band on the hindwing is narrow. On the upper surface of the hindwing, the white marking on the anal-marginal portion lies directly adjacent to the transverse row of transparent hyaline spots. The larvae of Eetion elia are thought to feed on Cleistanthus sumatranus.
